The aim of playing Texas Hold'em Poker is to create the best five-card hand from the seven cards available.
The game is played with a deck of 52 cards. During the game, all players are dealt five community cards in the middle of the table, which are dealt in turn after the betting rounds.
At the beginning of the game, each Player receives two cards from the Dealer. These are hidden to other players and are called pocket cards.
The winner is the Player who, at the end of the last betting round, has completed the strongest five-card hand out of his pocket cards and community cards.
1. Two Players betting on the entry level: small blind and big blind.
2. Each Player receives two pocket cards.
3. First round of betting.
4. Dealing the first 3 community cards to the table (flop).
5. Second round of betting.
6. The fourth community card is placed on the table (turn).
7. Third round of betting.
8. The fifth and final community card is placed on the table (river).
9. Final round of betting.
10. Checking the cards and paying out the winnings (showdown).
Dealer chip:
In Texas Hold'em, the game starts with the Player sitting to the left of the person with the dealer chip - "D". The Dealer chip indicates which Player is the "Dealer".
Of course the cards are dealt automatically by the system, but the chip is important because the small and big blinds are always paid by two Players sitting at the table to the left of the dealer.
After each round, the dealer's chip is passed on to the next person in a clockwise direction.
Blinds:
After a dealer chip has been assigned to one Player, the next two Players to the left of the dealer will place the small blind and the big blind.
Blind bets are placed in order to create the initial pot (so that there is something to play for). Only two players place blinds per game.
The first bet, also known as the "small blind", equals the small stake of the table.
The second bet is called the "big blind". It is equal to the large stake of the table.
The small blind is always paid by the Player sitting directly to the left of the person with the "D" chip.
The player to the left of the person with the small blind always pays the big blind.
If a Player sits at a table where the game is already in progress, he must pay the big blind in the next game. If the player is in a small blind or the dealer's position in the next game, he will be ommited in the game - the game will start only when the dealer position goes past.
Dealing the pocket cards:
After the dealer chip has been assigned and the small and large blinds have been paid, the cards are dealt.
Each Player receives 2 pocket cards that are not visible to the others.
First round of betting:
The first move is made by the person to the left of the Player who paid the big blind.
At this moment the person has three options to choose from: Call, Raise or Fold.
To call, the Player must add a large blind amount, and to raise, the Player adds an additional amount of chips to the pot.
The possibility to raise depends on the table settings:
- In Pot Limit (PL) games the raise cannot be greater than the amount collected in the pot,
- on No Limit (NL) tables this can be any amount of $ that a Player has.
If a player folds, he puts down his cards, loses his chips and no longer participates in the ongoing game.
Successive players have the same three options and the option to raise (Re-Raise). Its amount must not be lower than the previous raise.
After the first betting, three community cards are dealt in the middle of the table (the flop).
Dealing the first 3 community cards (the flop):
Cards now dealt are the third, fourth and fifth cards in the game.
These are not distributed to Players, but are placed face up in the middle of the table.
These are called community cards, which means that each Player can use them to create their own hand.
Second round of betting:
From this point on, the first move is made by the first Player to the left of the Dealer.
Players can now choose between Check, Call, Raise and Fold.
The Player chooses to check if they do not want to raise yet, but only to wait for further developments on the table.
If any Player raises, the next player must call, re-raise or fold.
Dealing the fourth community card (the turn):
At the end of the second round of betting the next community card is dealt in the middle of the table.
This card is called "the turn" or "the fourth street".
Third round of betting:
In this phase of the game, Players have four cards on the table and two pocket cards in their hands at their disposal.
Players evaluate their odds and another round of betting starts, where everyone can check, raise or fold.
Dealing of the last community card (the river):
The fifth and last card is dealt. Now there are already three flop cards on the table, a fourth card (the turn) and a fifth card (the river).
Final round of betting:
At this point in the game, there are five cards on the table and two cards in each Player's hand.
The next and last round of betting begins.
Players can check, call, raise or fold, and when the betting is over, the card checking begins.
Checking cards:
The system automatically finds the best five-card hand for each Player, using 5 community cards on the table and 2 pocket cards in the hands of the Players.
The winner is determined on the basis of a universally applicable ranking of card hands.
In our Poker Room you can also play the 3 card variant of Texas Hold'em. The difference is that a Player is dealt 3 and not 2 pocket cards.
The winning hand is calculated using 3 pocket cards and 2 out of 5 community cards.
